Danica Baird teaches us the story of David and Bathsheba, centering the story on Bathsheba and what we can learn from her.
Danica Baird is an attorney, advocate, and student of scripture who is passionate about examining familiar stories through new lenses. She earned degrees in law and literature from Brigham Young University and served as a missionary in Milan, Italy. Her advocacy work has focused on issues of sexual assault, exploitation, trafficking, and domestic violence. She is also particularly interested in how faith-centered communities can respond to harm and support survivors. Danica has also served in leadership roles with Mormon Women for Ethical Government and other nonprofit organizations. She believes that careful reading, thoughtful dialogue, and a deeper understanding of scripture can help faith communities foster greater compassion and change.
Note: This lesson includes a close reading of 2 Samuel 11–12 and will discuss themes of abuse of power, murder, and sexual assault. We will approach these scriptures with faith, care, and respect, but the subject matter may still be difficult for some participants. Please engage in whatever way feels most appropriate for you and extend grace to yourself as we move through this discussion together.
