Laurel Thatcher Ulrich is 300th Anniversary University Professor emerita at Harvard University. She is probably best known for A Midwife’s Tale: The Life of Martha Ballard Based on Her Diary, 1785-1812, which won the Pulitzer Prize for History in 1991. Her latest book, A House Full of Females: Plural Marriage and Women’s Rights in Early Mormonism, 1835-1870, is the first of her many historical works to focus on Latter-day Saint history. She has published peronal essays in Exponent II, Dialogue, Journal of Mormon History, and other publications and has an essay forthcoming in BYU Studies exploring the long history of the popular slogan attached to her name, “well-behaved women seldom make history.” She and her husband, Gael Ulrich, live in Bala Cynwyd, Pennsylvania.
