EDWARD WHITLEY {[email protected]} is professor and chair of the department of English at Lehigh University. He is the author of American Bards: Walt Whitman and Other Unlikely Candidates for National Poet (UNC Press, 2010) and co-editor, with Joanna Levin, of Whitman among the Bohemians (University of Iowa Press, 2014) and Walt Whitman in Context (Cambridge University Press, 2018).
