DARYL WHITE is professor of anthropology and chair of the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia, coeditor of Religion in the Contemporary South, and, with George Armelagos, coeditor of Globalization and the Evolution of Emerging Disease (Athens: University of Georgia Press, forthcoming). He has published numerous articles in the anthropology and sociology of religion.
