In the Brigham Young Memorial Park in a Drought Summer After a Drought Summer

Salt Lake City, Utah

a woman tills
the earth
forever her
shoulders never
lift their gentle
bend to soil
the boy
at her feet
prods irrigation water
with his bronze stick

years of some
rain years of
heavy snow
years brushed
these bronze bodies
into green
green bronze
and green still
flexed and bent
the woman
tills earth
forever

& nothing
ever grows
