Just read “The Widower”. My first wife died and I re-married a couple years later — so I can relate to the male character in this story. Maybe this is just my own personal experience, but I’m not sure that many 2nd wives (WOW’s, or “wives of widowers”) would say that they love the first wife. Rather I believe the 2nd wife feels that she’s 2nd, both in chronological order and in her husband’s feelings, and that she lives in the first wife’s perfect shadow — and will never measure up.

As a WOW, I would say that Mark has it just about exactly right.
